80 would live in substandard housing 70 would not be able to read and write 50 would be undernourished.

10 would have a disability 1 would be dying, 2 would be newborns.

1 would have a computer . . . and only 1 will have enjoyed higher education...

Or, in the words of the 20th-century British publisher, socialist, and humanitarian Sir Victor Gollancz (1893–1967): “The plain fact is that we are starving people, not deliberately in the sense that we want them to die, but willfully in the sense that we prefer their death to our own inconvenience” (1946, p. 192).

For those of you who are not yet familiar with Occupational Therapy without Borders (OTwB), it represents an emerging international movement of proactive occupational therapy practitioners who are committed to making our profession available as a relevant resource to the benefit of all people.

»Though we seem to be more aware about ongoing conflicts in, let’s say, the Middle East and certain parts of Africa, Guatemala — with a population of greater than 70% indigenous Mayan Indians — is also a country that is challenged to transform a culture of violenceinto a culture of peace. This war and chronic poverty caused by serious socio-economic and political inequalities produced a relatively large population of street children and youth at risk, many of whom choose participation in gangs for lack of better alternatives.
